Spiritism and Society

Does spiritism have a social role to play ?
Spiritism is not a spirituality that forgets man.
It is a human being-centered philosophy

Just as man is preoccupied by his future afterlife, the afterlife of the spirits is concerned about the future of man. Messages received from the spirits are not only information about the afterlife, but also hold the key to the meaning of life. Some of the important subjects dealt with by spiritism include the principles of freedom, justice and responsibility.
Spiritism thus plays a role in society
The spiritist, in the light of messages received from the afterlife and the notion of reincarnation, takes an interest in history, current events and the future of humanity.
Spiritism is a humanist philosophy which can help to improve society and contribute towards progress.
According to the spirits, evolution is not something individual but implies a collective consciousness.
The spiritist conscience opens new horizons in a materialistic society which is unable to satisfy man’s underlying quest for happiness.
In the face of the never-ending debate between materialism and spiritualism, i.e. between reason and belief, the spiritist alternative proposes the discovery of the spirit based upon the principle of reason.
When it well understood, the spiritist philosophy can break the chains of tyranny, thereby emancipating each human being.
For spiritists, this is the essential meaning of the absolute.

Economics and Politics.

“Love one another” ...........a truly political expression !!!!!

True spirituality comes about during a life lived in the context of sharing.
Is the north-south imbalance inevitable ?
Present societies ignore this divide. All powerful Money is the single and most important engine of human organizations.

What do the spirits say ?
“I accuse the profit-making group and the renunciation group of uniting on the back of humanity’s misfortunes” the spirit of Emile Zola.
“The economy is not a liberator. It encloses man inside inadequate systems. It has perverse effects on human relations, diverts production by preventing a true distribution of wealth,” the spirit of Raymond Aron.
“In a world where man is constantly a wolf for other men, in a world in which hundreds of thousands of children die of starvation, in a world dominated by enormous, unscrupulous financial power, in a world of racial hatred, of crime, of blood and torture, in a world of war and of deep rooted social inequality, the spiritual man must have the courage to politically commit himself” the spirit of Gabriel Delanne

Spiritism and Religion

Spiritism is not a religion !!!
Why it this ?
There is no God as judge but there is a creative and infinite force of love
Spiritism is not a belief.
There are no rites nor dogmas.
There are no social institutions nor hierarchy.
Believing in a ready-made, unverified doctrine or question what is real to discover more. This is the alternative offered and is always an issue.
This is the difference between religion and philosophy.
Spiritism is a philosophy

Natural laws have been discovered following experimental studies of spiritist phenomena. Reincarnation is not a punitive karma , but a constant evolution. Neither angels not demons continue in the afterlife, simply disembodied spirits. There are no miracles, only natural phenomena.
“Spiritism is a Christian form of sharing, of freedom and of dignity for all men, for all peoples and for all races”, the spirit of Jean Jaurès.
L'esprit de Jean Jaurès
Spiritism provides an answer to the essence of the Christian message independently from religious history.

Present Day Questions

What do the spirits say regarding the problems facing society today ?
Here are few examples :
Is suicide reprehensible ?
Collective responsibility is always involved is suicide
Is abortion a crime ?
The spirit is reincarnated at the time of conception. Life is thus suddenly stopped by an abortion. Cases of rape, poverty or incest do constitute mitigating circumstances. Abortion is a social reality which will not be solved by occasional demonstrations in and around hospitals.
Does homosexuality go against nature and society ?
“I claim the right to love for each human being because , if this verb exists, then I cannot accept the unpleasantness and crimes which arise to forbid love taking place” The spirit of Oscar Wilde.
Genetic Manipulation, Drugs, Handicaps and Euthanasia.

In the face of all these problems, the spirits call upon man to reflect and show love for his neighbor.

Racism and Injustice

Civil Rights

In many countries, being born a woman is already a condemnation in itself.
USA:
dozens of under 18 year olds await execution in Death Row.
Zaire :
arrests, torture, disappearances, hundreds of people executed without having had a trial.
China :
those who disagree with the government in place fill the prisons. All the Chinese are exposed to the over-zealous authorities.
Algéria :
silence and fear. Civil rights violated, physical torture, imprisonment for opposing the government, death penalty.
All these reprehensible acts have been highlighted by Amnesty International.
The Allan Kardec Group lends its support to Amnesty.
True spirituality must necessarily include the fight against these types of violence.
Oppression is not a fatality. It is created by Man.
The evolution of humanity and society requires an awareness and a struggle to recognize the existence and rights of others.

By nature the destiny of man is to be free
